COMO just opened a 28-room hotel in the heart of Bordeaux, and it’s the perfect wine-lover’s retreat

If you’re serious about wine and serious about where you sleep, COMO Cordeillan-Bages has just opened in Pauillac and it deserves your attention. The property, a turreted 17th-century estate on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, reopened on 1 May as COMO Hotels and Resorts’ debut in the Médoc and the collaboration behind it is as good as the address.

COMO has partnered with the Cazes family, owners of Château Lynch-Bages, one of the Médoc’s most respected estates. The result is a hotel with genuine insider access to a wine region most visitors can only observe from the outside. Guests get exclusive experiences at Lynch-Bages, and the hotel sits along the Route des Châteaux which is within reach of three of Bordeaux’s five First Growths.

The renovation was led by Paola Navone, the Italian designer who also reimagined COMO Le Montrachet in Burgundy. Her approach here is characteristically restrained: contemporary comfort in dialogue with the building’s heritage, using textures and materials that feel specific to this corner of France rather than generic luxury. The 28 rooms and suites, including two signature COMO Suites, are joined by a gastronomic restaurant, a 25-metre outdoor pool and a gym and sauna.

Beyond the estate, the village of Bages is a six-minute walk away, with artisan boutiques and a bistro that has become something of a local institution for those in the know. The Atlantic coast is 30 kilometres west. The season runs March to November, which for the Médoc harvest months alone makes it worth planning around.

COMO Cordeillan-Bages is open now. Rates from €350 per night. Book at comohotels.com/cordeillanbages
