There are hotels with personality and then there is The Zetter Marylebone, which has so much of it that the whole place has been given a fictional Victorian backstory.

The hotel channels the eccentric tastes of Wicked Uncle Seymour, an imagined Grand Tour enthusiast with a passion for Sir John Soane and the finer things, and the result is 24 rooms and a celebrated cocktail parlour tucked inside a Georgian townhouse on Seymour Street.

It’s located on a quiet turning on the Portman Estate that feels a world away from Oxford Street despite being moments from it.

The experience

The Zetter Marylebone rewards close attention. Every surface has been considered, from the leather-bound books and vintage gramophones to the rich velvet curtains and antique mirrors that make each room feel like a private discovery.

Seymour’s Parlour, the ground-floor cocktail lounge, is genuinely one of the best bars in Marylebone, with a thoughtful seasonal menu that draws in locals alongside guests rather than relying solely on hotel trade.

The atmosphere throughout is intimate rather than grand, with staff who are consistently praised for warmth and genuine engagement. This is a hotel that works as well for a long weekend as for a one-night special occasion.

The rooms

All 24 rooms are individually styled, with no two quite the same. Expect rich tones, carefully chosen vintage objects, Egyptian cotton linen, Marshall or Sonos speakers and Verden bath products.

Rooms range from smaller doubles up to 30-square-metre suites with king beds and seating areas. Some have walk-in rainfall showers, others a shower and bath combination. The high-ceilinged Deluxe Double overlooking the mews is particularly worth requesting.

The hotel has no lift, which is worth bearing in mind if stairs are a concern. Continental breakfast is charged separately at £15.50.

Food and drink

Seymour’s Parlour is the reason many guests spend their evenings in rather than out. The cocktail list is seasonal and inventive, with afternoon tea also served in the lounge. Continental breakfast is available each morning.

The hotel has no full restaurant, which means guests venture out for dinner: fortunately Marylebone High Street and the surrounding streets offer some of London’s best independent neighbourhood options within a ten-minute walk.

The neighbourhood

Seymour Street sits on the Portman Estate, which keeps the immediate surroundings quietly residential despite being seconds from Marble Arch. Selfridges is a five-minute walk, Hyde Park is equally close, and Marble Arch Underground is two minutes away.

Bond Street is five minutes in the other direction. Marylebone High Street, with its independent shops, delis and cafes, is around a fifteen-minute walk north, making this a genuinely useful base for both shopping and exploring.

The Zetter Marylebone is built around a fictional Victorian eccentric called Wicked Uncle Seymour, and every room reflects his imagined taste for Grand Tour curiosities and Soane-inspired collecting. No two rooms are alike — this is one of those rare hotels where upgrading to a different category genuinely means a different experience. Seymour's Parlour, the hotel's cocktail lounge, is one of the best bars in Marylebone in its own right.
