Paje Beach is already one of the better arguments for going to Zanzibar. Long, white and reliably windy, it draws kitesurfers from across the world and has the kind of Indian Ocean horizon that makes it difficult to look at anything else. What it has lacked, until now, is a hotel that matches the setting.
ENVI Paje opens in June, bringing 22 private villas to the beach’s southeastern stretch. The property is the third Tanzanian lodge from ENVI Lodges, an East Africa-focused hospitality brand co-founded by Noelle Homsy and Chris Nader, whose existing portfolio includes properties in the Serengeti and on Pemba Island. The villas are built from local materials with hand-crafted interiors, most with private pools and terraces oriented toward the ocean.
The wellness offer is the most distinctive part. ENVI has developed what it calls an African Wellbeing Philosophy, a programme that draws on indigenous botanical ingredients including baobab, coconut, clove, lemongrass and sea salt, combined with more clinical treatments such as hyperbaric oxygen therapy, red light exposure and cold plunge. It is an unusual combination and one that, handled carefully, could make for something more interesting than the average resort spa.
Beyond the wellness side, the property is deliberately flexible. Paje’s kitesurfing is world-class and steps from the lodge; diving, snorkelling, catamaran sailing and excursions to Stone Town are all available for those who want them. The food leans toward nutritious, conscious cooking with an immune-focused mixology bar, but the tone throughout is unhurried rather than prescriptive.
ENVI Paje is a member of Preferred Hotels and Resorts’ Lifestyle Collection. Bookings are open now for stays from 1 June 2026 at envilodges.com/paje
