Naming a hotel after one of London’s most coveted neighbourhoods sets a high bar, and The Marylebone largely clears it. Sitting on Welbeck Street with Marylebone Lane immediately to one side, this is a full-service hotel with 252 rooms that carries its scale more lightly than you might expect.

The interiors draw on the influence of designer David Hicks, with a considered mix of contemporary and antique art and furnishings throughout. It draws a steady mix of leisure and business guests who want genuine proximity to Marylebone High Street and Bond Street without the formality of a grand hotel.

The experience

The Marylebone works best as a well-run, well-located base rather than a destination in its own right, and the things it does consistently it does very well.

Service draws strong reviews and guests repeatedly note a sense of being genuinely embedded in the neighbourhood rather than simply occupying a building in it.

The headline facility is access to Third Space, one of London’s premium members-only health clubs, included free for hotel guests. An 18-metre pool, fitness classes, sauna and steam room are rare for a central London hotel at this price point and represent a meaningful difference from the competition in the same postcode.

The rooms

All 252 rooms are individually furnished, with Malin and Goetz toiletries, luxury bedding, robes and slippers throughout. The hotel is notably soundproofed, which matters for a property this close to both Oxford Street and Marylebone High Street.

Entry-level rooms are compact and a bit too small to be truly comfortable: it is worth considering a mid-category upgrade on longer stays.

Rooftop terrace suites at the top of the building are the clear standout, with impressive skyline views and considerably more space. Air conditioning is fitted throughout.

Food and drink

108 Brasserie serves modern British food on the ground floor, open from breakfast through dinner. The cocktail bar in the lobby is a pleasant space for an early evening drink and draws a neighbourhood crowd alongside hotel guests. Room service runs twenty-four hours.

Marylebone High Street is seconds from the front door and offers more interesting independent restaurants for those willing to step outside.

The neighbourhood

The hotel’s position on Welbeck Street puts guests at the genuine heart of Marylebone village. The High Street is adjacent, Bond Street Underground is a ten-minute walk south, and Selfridges is ten minutes away.

Regent’s Park is fifteen minutes north and the Wallace Collection is just around the corner. For a hotel of this size in this part of London, the immediate surroundings feel surprisingly calm and residential.

At a hotel price point where most properties offer a gym with a couple of treadmills, The Marylebone gives guests free access to Third Space, one of London's premium members-only health clubs with an 18-metre pool, sauna, steam room, yoga and Pilates classes.
The interiors draw on the influence of designer David Hicks throughout, giving the public spaces a considered quality that larger hotels rarely sustain. Rooftop terrace suites at the top of the building offer city views that justify the price step up.
