Milos’s north coast looks like nowhere else in Greece: bleached volcanic rock, sculpted by the wind, dropping into very clear water. Domes White Coast sits right on it, at Mytakas, inside a private nature reserve with its own stretch of that white shoreline. There are 30 suites, all adults only, and every one comes with a private infinity pool on the terrace. It is run by the Greek Domes group and belongs to Small Luxury Hotels of the World, so this is polished resort hospitality rather than an independent boutique. The execution justifies it.

The experience

Life here starts and ends at your own pool. The suites face the sea and the sunset, and the design keeps everything low and pale so the coastline does the talking. When you want company, there is a shared main pool, a cliffside bar for sunset drinks and the Soma Spa, which uses Elemis and Codage products for massages, wraps and facials. There is a small gym too. Three sandy coves at Mytakas are a five-minute walk away, and Sarakiniko, the island’s famous moonscape, is close enough for an early swim before the day-trippers arrive. It is a self-contained hotel, and most guests seem very happy to treat it that way.

The rooms

All 30 suites have a terrace or balcony with sea and sunset views and a private infinity plunge pool. Some Deluxe and Superior Suites have a glass pool or a chill-out pool instead, which is worth checking when you book if you have a preference. The White Coast Suites add more space inside and out. Interiors stay minimal and calm, and there is in-room dining for the days when getting dressed feels like too much effort. There is also an accessible Deluxe Room with horizon views, which is rare on the islands.

Food and drink

Makris Milos is the main event, a terrace restaurant serving contemporary Greek and Mediterranean cooking, with breakfast, lunch and dinner plus poolside snacks. The kitchen is led by chef Petros Dimas. The Bar handles cocktails and light bites, and its cliffside position makes it the obvious place to be at sunset. In-room dining covers the lazy days. For a change of scene, Plaka and the fishing village of Klima are both within easy reach.

The neighbourhood

Mytakas is on the quieter northern coast, a few minutes from Sarakiniko and its lunar white rocks, which are at their best early in the morning. Three sandy coves are a short walk from the hotel. Plaka, with its archaeological museum and sunset views, and the fishing village of Klima are both within easy reach, and the airport is about ten minutes away. Kleftiko’s sea caves are a boat trip away, and a hire car opens up the rest.

Domes White Coast is the most polished resort-style stay on Milos: 30 adults-only suites on a private stretch of the island's white volcanic coastline, each with its own infinity pool. Add the Soma Spa, the Makris Milos restaurant and a cliffside bar, and you have a hotel built to keep you happily on property. It is group-run rather than independent, and a Small Luxury Hotels of the World member, but the setting near Sarakiniko is the real argument for staying here.
